In Endless Legend you can choose from eight completely different races and even create your own custom race! While 8 is a lot fewer than 43, I got the feeling that each was completely unique with all of their units being special to them. Genghis Khan is bloodthirsty and will attack anyone and everyone while Gandhi abhors war and will not be your friend if you are too aggressive. From my one game I could tell that the developers tried real hard to create a unique AI behavior for each civ leader. Man, if I’m spending 30+ hours to complete one game I could spend the rest of my gaming life trying out each civ! Now while each civ generally gets one unique unit, building, and trait, they are otherwise the same sharing all of the same units, etc. With that many to choose from each game really will be different on each play-through. It’s Okay To Be Different! While Civ 5 and Endless Legend are both in the same genre, they’re vastly different games and that’s quite okay! With Civ 5 I felt like I was getting a history lesson as the game tries to be somewhat realistic with the different traits of the 43 civilizations available with all of the DLC. Obviously I didn’t finish a game there either. I set the game speed to faster knowing that I didn’t have much time. With Endless Legend I only got 6 hours in, but the tutorial was much quicker (which can be both good and bad because if you don’t know what you’re doing when you start a real game then it can be frustrating). However, I have yet to finish that first game.

I first picked the Germans and had already planned out my next two games. I started out way excited about the game and read almost every detail on Carl’s Guides.

This was especially true for me since this was my first Civilization game, however I had played Galactic Civilization II so I wasn’t entirely new to the genre. Of course the first time through there will be a learning curve. In my other 35 hours I still haven’t finished my first game! Most state that they can finish their game in about 8 hours. Well, I’ve actually played Civ 5 for 40 hours, about 5 of which was in tutorials. Limited Play. First, I have to confess that I’ve only had limited play with each so I don’t feel that I can give a full rating on each game. So, which is better? Why does one have to be better? Why do we love lists that rank the top 10 in everything? What if the world of video games isn’t so black and white and so neatly organized? I propose that each is different and which is better will depend upon your taste.

Which Is Better? I recently bought Civ 5 when it was on sale for 75% off and I also played Endless Legend during the free event this past weekend on Steam.
